Life at JLR blog
From Undergraduate to Scrum Master, Rong has been at JLR for nearly 30 years and has loved being part of the journey we’ve been on in the diversity ad inclusion space.
Q: Tell us about yourself.
I am originally from China. In August 1995, I arrived in the UK for the first time having obtained a 6-month undergraduate placement in Rover Body and Pressings in Swindon. During that time, I worked in several areas in the business. About a week before the end of my placement, I received a Rover Group Silver Award for my outstanding personal development. I was also offered a Project Engineer’s position in the company’s Tooling Department. I’ve worked in various roles within JLR since then. Now, I am a Scrum Master in Vehicle Programmes, coaching and empowering my team to adapt, collaborate and deliver, be Agile, not just do Agile.
Q: What does it mean to you to be able to be yourself at work?
I believe that it is important to recognise and celebrate people of Asia Pacific backgrounds within the business. A diverse and inclusive environment improves employee experiences and enhances collaboration, communication, and innovation. JLR is on an exceptional journey of transformation to become proud creators of modern luxury, and we can only succeed by being a truly diverse and inclusive organisation. To me, honouring and appreciating the wonderful cultures, rich histories and unique contributions from Asia Pacific communities helps improve understanding, overcome misconceptions, and promotes equity and representation in JLR. I want everyone to be able to bring their authentic selves to work and reach their full potential.
Q: What’s next for you a JLR?
JLR has never been in a better place right now. The company’s cultural transformation has been amazing while the revenue and productivity continues to strengthen. I am proud to work for JLR. I have a deep passion for working with people and solving problems. I am also result driven and believe I can look at the bigger pictures and make effective decisions. I want to embrace new challenges in JLR where I can use these skills to contribute to higher-level strategic decision-making while helping others to grow. The change in JLR is super exciting, and I want to be part of the change.
