To me, bringing my authentic self and feeling respected for who I am is as important as having a successful career

Finance Analyst Divya talks to us about her career journey and the importance of respect in the workplace.

Q: What is your job role?

I am a Finance Analyst in the Material Costs & Inventory Team in Global Finance Shared Services, based in Whitley. I take great pride in being responsible for costing the materials that goes into making every beautiful luxury car we produce, in all UK and international plants. Ever since moving to Coventry from Yorkshire and having a short career-break to embrace motherhood, I always had the desire to join JLR and applied for a role through the JLR career portal.

Q: Why did you join JLR?

Over the years of having experience working in three different Fortune-500 companies, I have developed a passion for working with high-performance teams & sustainable technologies, which aligns perfectly with JLR’s commitment to innovation & luxury. As a passionate driver myself, I am particularly drawn to JLR because of its pioneering work in the field of luxury vehicles and commitment to sustainability, which resonates with my own values. I am committed to protect and grow our value, which is also a key Finance Chapter commitment.

Q: Tell us about the employee network you are part of.

Ever since joining JLR in October 2022, I have not only got opportunities to showcase my accounting skills and working in a great team, but also been involved in various networks/communities within the organisation as I am passionate about DE&I and wellbeing. I am a proud REACH (Race, Ethnicity and Cultural Heritage) network champion, which celebrates various cultures around the world. Coming from an Indian origin, the one close to my heart is South Asian Heritage Month (SAHM). This is the second year JLR celebrates SAHM and I am proud to be in the organising committee both the years, delivering an outstanding team event and celebrating the 8 countries which represents South Asia.

Q: What does this years’ South Asian Heritage Month theme ‘Free To Be Me’ mean to you?

Recognising & celebrating the South Asian culture is very essential in our corporate world as it contributes to a more diverse & inclusive workplace. It also boosts employee engagement & morale among South Asian colleagues which leads to higher job satisfaction & loyalty. Companies celebrating diverse cultures attracts great talents around the world too. This year’s SAHM theme is ‘Free to be me’. To me, bringing my authentic self and feeling respected for who I am is as important as having a successful career.
