'JLR has great progression avenues that will open doors for you'

Hear from Patrick, a Level 3 Manufacturing Advanced Apprentice who's felt part of the team since day one and got involved in wider JLR initiatives.

Tell us about your course and what it entails day to day.
I am doing the Level 3 Advanced apprenticeship Manufacturing pathway. Day to day I will align myself with a trade’s person of a particular section, generally it will be an electrician as that is where I see myself in the future. I work alongside them, shadow them on tasks to learn as much as I can and try and improve my own skill set along the way.

What's the coolest thing about your job?
I really enjoy getting to work with Robot’s, PLC’s, press machinery and occasionally getting to fabricate random things for smaller jobs. The fact that every day is different is great.

Tell us something that you've done that makes you feel proud.
In work it would have to be getting involved in TIC (Team Improvement Circle), as someone that struggles with dyslexia, being able to stand up and present a project out to peers and senior management was a great achievement for me.

How have your colleagues supported you in your growth and development?
I have been really lucky with the colleagues on my shift, any time I have asked for help it has never been a problem, I was made to feel part of the team from the very first day on shift. It really helped me settle and give me a better platform to learn.

Tell us about the social / community side of being on the JLR Early Careers Programme.
In first and second year when we are together in college the social aspect is great for learning, with my year group being a wide range of ages from people starting their working lives to people like myself that have a wide range of working experiences, we were able to learn from each other and problem solve of all challenges that we face of assignments, practical lessons and even on a few social nights out.

What is your top tip for potential candidates who are going through the application / interview process?
Grasp the opportunity with both arms and make the most of it, you never know where it can lead you, JLR has great progression avenues that will open doors for you weather you choose to follow them or not is your choice.
