'I realised that JLR is keen on developing its people'
Our Team Improvement Circle is a voluntary programme where small teams utilise basic problem solving tools and techniques to improve a problem in their workplace to the benefit of themselves and the business as a whole. Derri is participating in her third TIC, previously winning the UK convention in 2023.
Derri is based at our Solihull site, working in the Stampings department and has been at JLR for nearly 11 years. When TIC (Team Improvement Circle) was first introduced, Derri was sceptical, doubting that their ideas would be taken seriously. Fast forward 10 years, and she is now participating in her third TIC, having transformed from a sceptic to a strong advocate. The TIC is a powerful initiative where teams across the business come together to problem solve to continually improve business processes as well as helping their own personal development.
Derri told us : “My TIC journey has been challenging yet rewarding. Balancing project work with everyday job responsibilities was tough, and presenting at the end was daunting. However, the support from judges and the sense of accomplishment made it all worthwhile.” TIC introduced Derri to different aspects of the business and helped her build confidence and recognition.
She added “I learned that it's not just about what you do, but how you do it, TIC taught me to make the most of every experience and gain confidence. I realise that JLR is keen on developing its people and that opportunities are abundant for those willing to put in the effort.”
Winning the UK Regional Convention in 2023 and attending the Global Convention in New York was a shock and a delight for Derri and her team, she shares “The company went above and beyond to ensure we had an unforgettable experience."
The TIC programme exceeded Derri’s expectations by providing immense support and fostering relationships across departments. It helped her improve her confidence and problem-solving skills.
When asked, what would you say to someone who has never taken part in TIC, “I wholeheartedly recommend everybody should give TIC a try, there's nothing to lose and everything to gain, whether for personal improvement, career progression, or building new relationships and who knows - you might even win!”
