Q: What programme are you on and what are you studying at university?
I’m on the HR (People Experience) pathway, studying Business Psychology at Bath Spa University. I currently sit in the recruitment marketing team within my first impressions.
Q: How have you found your first few months with JLR?
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my experience so far. The people I’ve met have been incredibly encouraging and warm. My team has been so supportive; when I first joined, I was nervous, but they welcomed me, showed me the ropes and explained how the company operates. The culture here is so positive, with a strong emphasis on being yourself, which creates a comforting and inclusive environment to work in.
Q: Tell us about the Early Careers community / social element?
They’ve provided us with so many opportunities already, in the first week there were inductions and socials organised, by the end of the first month we were attending a summer ball. They’ve organised ski trips which I’m planning on going on and a winter ball, as well as many regular sports clubs and pub trips.
Q: What is something you want to achieve in your placement year?
I would love to further my communication and public speaking skills. I’ve always aspired to become more confident when addressing and presenting to larger audiences; recently I had the chance to try it, and I absolutely loved the experience. It’s something I am eager to explore further during my time here. As well as this, the HR pathway offers chances to get involved with other areas of the company, such as events organisation and roll outs in manufacturing/engineering, these opportunities allow you to network and learn more about individuals from all over the company, so I would love to continue doing this.
Q: What is your top tip for people applying to an Undergraduate placement at JLR?
Research JLR beforehand, by understanding the company’s requirements and specifics for the role, you can highlight your key skills and experience to the interviewer, demonstrating the value you can add to a team. Secondly, don’t hesitate to network on LinkedIn. Connecting with previous/former employees will provide valuable insight into the company: culture and expectations. Most of all, be authentic. They want you to be you, this will help you stand out and make a lasting impression!
