PATHWAYS

There are several skill-pathways within the undergraduate engineering scheme. Each role has certain entry requirements and involves a variety of work across many teams and functions within JLR. You can only apply for one pathway – so choose carefully.

Software

Our future-focused vehicles incorporate some of the most advanced technology in everyday use on the planet, utilising software that is essential in advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), Infotainment and new electric propulsion. That puts our Software Engineers at the heart of innovating world-class products, and at the forefront proudly creating the exceptional. As a successful undergraduate in this area of engineering, you will work alongside experienced engineers who will guide and support your growth into becoming an experienced member of the software engineering community. During your placement, you’ll work within one of our software teams to deliver best quality and reliable features that delight customers – gaining valuable insight into robust design and implementation and advanced validation techniques or developing tools and processes to support the work of our engineering teams.

On the Software Undergraduate Programme you could work in one of the following departments: Digital Product Platform (DPP), Engineering Propulsion (EP), Engineering Operations (EO), Engineering Vehicle (EV), Engineering Reserarch (ER), Engineering Business Excellence or Vehicle Programmes.

Software

What You'll Need

You will need to be on track to achieve at least a 2.2 degree in software engineering, computer science, cyber engineering or other software focused degree.

You will have a real passion for problem solving and the curiosity to understand business challenges and deliver innovative solutions. You will also have strong numerical and interpersonal skills and the confidence to champion new initiatives.

Please note that our undergraduate placement opportunities are open only to penultimate-year students (those who will be returning to their final year of study or on an integrated Masters after their placement with us). All our undergraduate programmes have a fixed start date, commencing 7th July 2025.

ONLINE TESTING

If you progress to the next stage we’ll ask you to complete a series of short online tests which you will complete independently. Passing this stage is based on your scores from completing your online assessments. Don’t forget to use the practice area to help you prepare. Click here to enter the practice test area.

ONLINE ASSESSMENT CENTRE

The next stage is the virtual assessment centre. This consists of a presentation exercise and behavioural interview. You’ll be provided with a preparation guide to help you at this final stage.

OFFER

We’ll share the outcome of your assessment centre within 2 weeks of you completing it. If you are successful, we’ll make you a verbal offer and confirm this in writing via email.

Before you join JLR, we’ll give you all the information you need through post-offer engagement events, online platforms and more. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to ask questions, we’re here every step of the way.

INTRODUCTION

Start with corporate and local inductions into JLR, in July 2025. Receive an overview of our business and future strategic direction, network with other joiners / key stakeholders including our D&I networks and experience the workplace for the first time! 

You’ll also get more details of your undergraduate programme and learning curriculum, gain exposure to our vehicles and meet the early careers team, here to support you at every step.

 During your year-long placement, develop key business skills including resilience, personal branding and self-care. And of course, gain experience working with industry professionals to develop your technical knowledge and abilities and bring your academic learning to life.

DEVELOPMENT

Own your own journey. Apply your learning to real-world business issues as part of your role. You’ll have the ability to undertake shadowing experiences for up to 4 weeks, helping you broaden your knowledge of your business function and connect with new stakeholders. Expect to get stuck in and lead innovation – you’ll make an impact from the start.
