Manufacturing sits within our new Industrial Operations function, incorporating all teams across manufacturing engineering, procurement and supply chain and consolidates accountability for the complete ecosystem of how we produce our vehicles, in one place.
There are a variety of pathways that sit within the Graduate: Industrial Operations scheme. Each role has certain entry requirements and involves a diversity of work across many teams and functions within JLR. You can only apply for one pathway – so choose carefully.

On the Industrial Operations: Manufacturing Engineering graduate programme in Halewood, you could work in one of the following departments within Global Manufacturing Engineering (GME) or across our Halewood Plant including area such as Trim & Final, Paint, Quality or Material Planning & Logistics (MP&L), Paint. You will be allocated to a department based on personal preferences and business needs.
Halewood Plant - Our Halewood Plant is a vehicle production facility with a long heritage of has a strong manufacturing heritage. In fact, we’re extremely proud to have achieved our 60th year of manufacturing in 2023. What’s more, Halewood is home to the award-winning Evoque and the Discovery Sport and is now destined to become our first fully electric vehicle manufacturing facility.
This is an exciting time for us, with unprecedented levels of investment and the introduction of new technologies. You’ll join us in either our Paint, Trim and Final, Quality or Materials, Planning and Logistics (MP&L) teams where you’ll get to will experience the end-to-end production off cars including our new generation of electric cars set to launch in, which will be delivered in 2025.
Global Manufacturing Engineering (GME) - Our GME team are responsible for designing, installing and commissioning the manufacturing facilities that build the modern luxury vehicles of the future. If you join this team, you’ll be responsible for ensuring our manufacturing plant teams have the resources they need to produce the right number of vehicles, all meeting the highest standard of quality.
You will need to be on track to achieve at least a 2.2 degree in manufacturing engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, material engineering, or aeronautical or automotive engineering if you have a strong interest in manufacturing. We may also require civil engineers for construction roles.
You will also have real passion for problem-solving and the curiosity to understand business challenges and deliver innovative solutions. Finally, you will require strong numerical and interpersonal skills and the confidence to champion new initiatives.
Please note that to apply to our graduate programmes, you must have obtained a degree or be expecting to achieve your degree in the current academic year. All our graduate programmes have a fixed start date, commencing September 2025.

If you progress to the next stage we’ll ask you to complete a series of short online tests which you will complete independently. The next stage is the virtual assessment centre. This consists of a presentation exercise and behavioural interview. You’ll be provided with a preparation guide to help you at this final stage.
We’ll share the outcome of your assessment centre within 2 weeks of you completing it. If you are successful, we’ll make you a verbal offer and confirm this in writing via email.

The graduate programme will not only provide industry insight, but will help you develop key business skills including communication, self-management, problem solving, influencing and leadership. You’ll receive a blended learning approach over the course of year 1 including face-to-face workshops, virtual classrooms and on-demand content delivered by Ashorne Hill. Lifelong learning – To support your skills development and experiential learning, you’ll be given 20% protected off-the-job learning time, giving you the ability to further your development and achieve the requirements of your graduate programme.

Manufacturing is the heart of our business operations and helps us deliver the exceptional vehicles we deliver to our customers. You’ll get the chance to undertake a week-long placement on the manufacturing line and gain an appreciation of the immense effort that goes into each vehicle we create. You’ll also have the option of a further 1-week experience in another business function such as early careers, commercial, company quality and others, to gain different insights and experiences than a typical day-to-day in your home department.
Own your own journey. Apply your degree to real-world business issues as part of your role. You’ll have the ability to complete rotational placements as part of your two-year programme, broadening your knowledge of the business function and building connections with new stakeholders. Expect to gain tangible examples on where you have positively impacted the business and further your personal and professional skills. Depending on your function, there may also be the opportunity for you to gain further qualifications during your 2nd year.
The GIC is an initiative run by JLR across year 2 of your programme. You’ll have the opportunity to develop innovative solutions to current business issues, working collaboratively with other JLR graduates globally. Your 20% off-the-job time will support your self-development and project work. Each group will have the opportunity to present their pioneering solutions to senior leaders within the business, with winners often receiving prizes and funding to incorporate their idea into JLR in the future!
Finish your graduate programme with a recognition event, designed to showcase your experiences and celebrate your fantastic achievements.
